Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. It cannot be cured with medication, but the surgery is quick and effective. EFEsalud interviewed Dr Rafael Barraquer and entered the operating room where, in fifteen minutes, he brings light and life to a lens that travels from the nebula to clarity.

Dr Rafael Barraquer graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and specialist in Ophthalmology. He obtained his doctorate in 1987 with the title “Cum Laude”.

He is Deputy Medical Director of the Barraquer Ophthalmology Center and in his clinical and surgical activity he specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma, corneal transplantation and refractive surgery.

Also professor and researcher, Dr Rafael Barraquer, who has published a large number of monographs and scientific articles in prestigious specialist journals, and has obtained multiple prizes and distinctions, opens his operating room to us to explain to us what the cataracts and how they are treated.

Surgery for this disease makes it possible to regain normal vision and even better than what has been done for a long time.
